One of Mac's friends invited him to his birthday party.  They had dinner and cake and then headed to the local high school football game.  There were 12 boys, all from Mac's class and a few others.  I had to work so John met them at the game, Emily enjoyed hanging out with her girl buddies......they all had fun watching football!

Octoberfest

Image
Mac's class, along with the 2nd grade had an "Octoberfest" presentation last week.  They did a few dances and then performed a short play.  Mac had a speaking role and did really well.  He had memorized 99% of what he was supposed to saw, we didn't even know he was memorizing his part.  All the kids did a great job, it's amazing to see how much he has grown in a year.  We finished up with the "Chicken Dance", I hope we made Grandma Shaffner proud!

Emily's first award

Emily came home with this award!  She is a very good listener at school.

Reptile show

Image
John and Mac went to a reptile show a few weekends ago, Mac was very excited.  His favorite was a lizard that held a business card... he thought that was a great trick.  They had fun!

Cell project

Image
Mac's class had to create "cells" and be creative. Mac made his first out of lego's then the class decided to make different food themes.......they had a feast.  Mac made one out of candy with the help of Grandma Jan!  The kids were very proud of their creations.

Recycling field trip....

Image
I chaperoned Mac's class field trip to the local trash and recycling facility.  It was pretty interesting and I learned alot too.  I was curious about why certain recyclable items couldn't be recycled here and got all my questions answered.  The kids enjoyed themselves....but didn't like the smell.  The third grade class is responsible for recycling at their school, but Mac doesn't want to because he has to give up one recess a week for collection..... oh boy :)!

Yogurt eating contest

Image
Our local self serve yogurt shop recently celebrated their 2nd anniversary.  They had a yogurt eating contest and Mac really wanted to do it.  So both Mac and John signed up for the event.  They were placed in "age groups", filled their container with as much yogurt as they wanted and had about 3 minutes to eat as much as they could.  Mac had brain freeze and didn't get much down, John did better but neither won....they did have fun trying.  They did get to finish their frozen yogurt though.....it was alot of yogurt!

Catching up to Mac.....

Image
All the circus talk around our house these days inspired Emily to want to try to pogo too.  She was using Mac's but it's pretty beat up so she wanted to use some of her money to buy a new pogo.....Hello Kitty of course :)!  She is doing well and starting to get the hang of it.  Her PE teacher said if she can do 30 pogo's without stopping or falling (normal is 50), he would let her on the "pogo" club.  She is working hard!

Marathon day

Image
The kids had their annual "marathon" at their school, similar to a jog a thon.  They kids raised pledges based upon their "laps" and the monies are being put toward a new gym floor for the school.  Currently the floor is carpet and is very old and smelly!  I helped organize and manage the marathon this year so I didn't get any pictures but Mac's teacher managed to get one!  The kids did amazing, many more laps than I though they would do.  The loop was a 1/2 mile long, Mac did 13 laps and Emily did 9.......awesome!!!!!  Thanks to everyone who sponsored the kids!
