The Mac Kinnon Family

Grandma Jan arrived in along with Brian this evening. Mac and Emily were sound asleep, Mac really wanted to go to the airport but their plane was delayed almost 3 hours. Of course that was one of our battles today, he needed the rest. He has his Easter program tomorrow and I really want him feeling well so he doesn't miss it! Anyway Brian did great on the flight for Jan, even with the hours spent on the runway waiting to get the plane fixed. Brian was able to go into the cockpit and see the pilot, which Jan said was cool. She got a great shot of Brian at the controls!

Mac has been sick, must have caught whatever bug Emily had or picked up somewhere. He's been very whiny, clingy and irritable. He woke up this morning in a great mood, seemed to feel better so I let him go to school. He seemed to have a good day, then all heck broke loose this afternoon. He argued with anything I asked him to do, then cried about it, wasn't listening at all and being a bit mean. I know he doesn't feel good and we all get grumpy when we don't feel well, but my goodness, he was a challenge. On the up side Emily is doing better each day. We had a recheck, she still has a chest full of crude and they heard wheezing but it's much improved. Antibiotics and nebulizer for the next week, then another recheck!

Our little princess is doing better. We had another doc visit Sat. am and was put on oral antibiotics (no more injections) and continue nebulizing. She is eating better and is back to her playful fun self. You can still hear a chest full of junk but she definitely is on the mend. We go back on Tues. for our next visit. Mac had a fun weekend. He had t-ball practice yesterday which he loved. He has a bit of the crud too, but it seems just to be a cold. He's not at 100% but enjoyed playing outside today in the 75 degree sunshine! He loves riding his bike and helping daddy in the garage. Emily was very cute this afternoon, trying to hit a ball with a golf club like her brother. She didn't use the correct end, but she's got the concept, pretty cute!

Last night was pretty rough. Emily was coughing a bunch and wasn't doing well at all. She was up and down, really working hard to breath. Of course I was up checking on her, at 3:00 am she was uncomfortable. After a diaper change and a bottle she still couldn't get comfy, so I took her downstairs and rocked her, after about a hour she got to a point she could sleep but was up and down. She and I laid in the rocking chair until about 6:30. Poor girl didn't want much to drink or eat. We had an appt. at the docs this am. We spent another few hours there, Emily got another antibiotic injection and a nebulizer treatment with Albuterol. The Albuterol helped the wheezing she was experiencing but she wanted to part of that mask on her face, it was a struggle. So doc said to watch her, gave us a nebulizer to use at home, and if she got worse off to the hospital we were to go for IV fluids, etc. As the day progressed she got a little brighter and better. So last weekend Emily had a fever, but acted relatively normal. The fever subsided Monday, she seemed ok Tues, then yesterday afternoon she was unhappy. No fever but clingy, not eating and having a rough day in general. By the time John got home I needed a break and went to the gym, John experienced the same. She was asleep by the time I got home at 7. She didn't sleep well throughout the night and started coughing something fierce. This morning she was in good spirits, ate a little, but by 11 am she was feeling pretty miserable. So I called the doc and got her in the afternoon. She was wheezing and really was having an uncomfortable time breathing. They tried a nebulizer with Albuterol which did nothing. So after some blood work, 2 shots of antibiotics into her thighs and a chest x-ray (3 hours later) the poor girl has pneumonia. After Mac's swim class today the instructor said Mac is ready to move up to the starfish class, he is doing so well and can swim across the pool. This next class is the last of the "preschool classes" that are supposed to be for 3-5 year olds. I asked what happens when he's proficient in the class as we want to keep him interested and challenged, as long as he continues to love swimming. No one at the YMCA knew what would be next as the next level of classes start with 6 year old kids. I imagine he'll be proficient with this class by the end of the year. Guess we'll see what happens. We very proud of our little swimmer!

This afternoon John planted a few flowers to add some color to our yard. They look very nice, the kids and I went out to enjoy some sunshine while John was finishing up. Emily and I haven't been feeling well this weekend and a dose of sunshine seems to make everyone feel better. Mac is doing so well riding his bike and Emily wanted something to ride too so I pulled out her little toy from the house. Guess we'll need to get her some outside toys too! I couldn't resist snapping a pic of how cute she looked while seeing what daddy was doing!

John mowed the grass this weekend and Mac really wanted to help daddy. I didn't realize how much he was going to help until I looked out the door and saw Mac and John pushing the lawn mower. Although it wasn't very safe and made me nervous, the excitement and pleasure on Mac's face held me back from stopping him from helping. He did have on his "snow boots" so his toes wouldn't get chopped off which was his biggest accomplishment. As soon as they were done Mac came running in to tell me they were done and he didn't chop off any of his toes!

This weekend Mac decided his play set is his "boat" and has taken John and I for rides on his boat. He makes us work on his boat, but he is always the Captain! Today we evaded pirates, a big rock and saw a dolphin swimming before landing on Mac Kinnon island which included him getting off and clearing the way to get the boat on land! Emily was even allowed to board the boat today! Mac has a wonderful playful imagination!

John has been hyped up with Purdue's men's basketball team making it into the finals. They beat Washington gaining them a spot in the "Sweet 16". Mac also fed off John's excitement and was into Purdue winning. Last night the boys had a "pizza party" eating pizza in the living room while watching the game. Of course Mac thought this was extra cool too. John told Mac if Purdue won last night he could wave our Purdue flag (that is proudly displayed outside our house) around the yard, which Mac did today!

We had our old friend Stuart over for dinner tonight. I worked with him at the VEC when I lived in Richmond while John and I were dating until after Mac was born. Stuart became a great friend to us and we finally were able to get together. I made a brownie/cookie thing for dessert tonight and the boys were all enjoying it. I let Mac eat his at the coffee table, he left it for a minute and we see Emily take a piece and run. She normally isn't allowed chocolate yet so she thought she was one sneaky girl! She definitely enjoyed it.

As Mac was getting dressed this morning he asked if he could wear his tie that he stumbled upon in his drawers. Of course I told him no, ties were for special occasions but he didn't feel that way. So what they heck, he wore a tie. I made him take it off before going into the gym but he wore it around the house until this afternoon when he lost interest. He does look cute!

We finally had a break in the rain here today, it was in the 60's and bright sun was shining! After Emily's nap today we played outside, Emily had a ball and seems to have the "Mac Kinnon Tongue"! John, Mac and Emily all stick out their tongue when they are concentrating hard! Mac enjoyed some bike riding, he can now start and stop by himself. He and John took a bike ride while Emily helped me clean my car! It was a fun afternoon.

Mac was intrigued today by St. Patrick's Day. I explained he needed to wear green today or he gets pinched, he of course worn green and enjoyed pinching those without green on! I picked him up after preschool today and he was all excited telling me how a leprechaun snuck into his classroom while they were at chapel and turned everything green, and left green cookies for a snack. I had totally forgot about leprechauns until Mac was so excited about it today. It was a fun day for Mac!

We returned this afternoon from our Disney Vacation. We had a wonderful time, it was busy but so nice to relax, spend time with Jim, Toni and Brian and get to see Disney World. We started our vacation last Saturday, we were on the road by 6 am. After a few hours on the road we were wishing we flew! Mac had to stop almost every hour to pee and the kids ate their way to Florida. Mac was so jazzed about getting there. We arrived Sunday afternoon, our hotel was on the Disney property so everywhere we went there was Disney. Our hotel room was footsteps away from the pool and we had an adjoining room with Jim and Toni. The kids were thrilled to see the characters, well Emily wasn't so thrilled. Mac is a thrill ride junkie, he was able to ride about 90% of the rides and loved every minute of it. Splash mountain was the best, he got to ride in the front and got SOAKED! All the kids did great, until Friday then Mac and Emily (John and I too) were Disney'ed out and pretty tired. All the ...

The car is packed and we are ready to start our fun journey tomorrow morning at 5 am. Yes John thinks we can get up early and be on the road by 5, we will try our best. We are all looking forward to the trip, Mac is probably the most excited!!!! We will try to post pictures and updates as we have Internet available. We are driving a little over half way tomorrow, then will arrive at Disney on Sunday.

Emily had her 15 month check up today and she weighed in at 20 pounds 5 oz, wahoo! We are so thrilled we can finally turn her car seat around. It will make our trip to Florida so much nicer for her. She is 29 1/2 inches tall and got 2 vaccines today, all is well with her. It's so funny that she is such a little peanut in comparison to Mac at the same age. I hope she can keep her girly figure as she gets older!

We'll often find Emily these days sitting looking at a book or she will bring us a book to read. I'm so thrilled she is finally interested in books. Yesterday the kids were too quiet, Emily was reading and Mac was playing a game on John's phone, so I had to snap a pic. Emily became quickly distracted when Mac came and sat down next to her with the phone, it looked like more fun then books to her!

We woke up Monday morning to this beautiful site. Mac was so thrilled he couldn't wait to go play in the snow. We grabbed a few pics right away, Mac was still in his jammies. As we were eating breakfast Mac said God answered his prayers for snow! John and Mac got dressed and went out to play, our neighbor Austin came out to play with Mac, he had a great time. Of course everything was closed yesterday, and most things are closed or delayed today. Which means Mac is out of school and being able to hang with Daddy since he's off as well since he returned from his trip. We ended up with about 3 inches before the snow stopped, now the roads are icy today as the temp at 7 am was 15 degrees....burr......!
