Mac's newest addiction

Mac has a new addiction, a back scratcher. A couple of weeks ago he saw one of those wooden back scratchers in my drawer, he used it and loved it and asked to use it a few times since. Last week he comes into my room at some early hour and asks for my back scratcher. I give it to him and asked him if he wants to come in bed with me, he says no and takes the back scratcher to his room, scratched his back (I guess) and went back to sleep. Two mornings ago he did the same thing, although this time he scratched his back in my room, said it felt good to scratch his back, then hopped in my bed and fell back asleep. I chuckle at the little things that make men happy, even at 4 years old!

Afternoon water fun

Image
Mac was a very good boy today so while we were out running errands we stopped and picked up a few fun outdoor water toys. Since it's so hot and muggy here it made for a perfect afternoon. Both kids loved the sprinkler, Mac enjoyed jumping over it the most. Emily also enjoyed kicking back in her little pool. The slip and slide was also a hit, Emily kept trying to drink the water coming out of the holes, Mac loved sliding and had a few grass burns on his arm this evening!

Buzz cut, sort of

Image
Mac has been bugging me for the better part of a week to get his hair "buzzed". He wanted it short like daddy's. I played along for a few days thinking he would forget about it, but he didn't. Every day he would ask me if he could get his hair buzzed. Today after swimming I decided to take him, he needed a hair cut anyhow but I really didn't want him to be totally buzzed so after chatting with the stylist, we found a cut both Mac and I could agree on. It actually is a great cut and I'm pleased with it. Mac is tickled as well. It will be good for the summer as much as he'll be in the pool!

Brotherly love

A few weeks ago we found Mac reading to Emily. He remembered some words and made some up but never the less it was adorable. Today was better then the past few days. We had a play date with friends at Water Country and Mac did good. Hopefully tomorrow will be good too!

Rest of the weekend.....

Mac has had a hard time lately listening and has been doing some mischievous things. It started when John went on his latest adventure so I don't know if it's related to that or just a phase. I thought allowing him to burn off some energy by doing some great stuff this weekend would help, but it didn't seem to make a big difference. Yesterday after miniature golf (Mac got 3 holes in one, pretty impressive), we chatted and I decided we won't do anymore fun stuff until he shaped up, that all this great stuff we were doing is stuff that is earned. Last night as I was putting him to bed we were saying his prayers, he asked God to help him be a better boy, which was cute. Today he did fairly well throughout the day and I told him often how well he was doing, then this evening he began not listening and it went downhill from there, so no fun stuff tomorrow. Hopefully this will do the trick, he seems to respond well to earning privileges and positive feedback. If anyone ...

Fun at Busch Gardens

Image
We have annual passes for Busch Gardens and Water Country. Mac has been asking to go to Busch Gardens, I hesitated this weekend because I knew it would be busy with it being a holiday weekend. I gave in this afternoon and after Emily's nap we headed over around 4:15. It was actually a good time, those who came in the morning were leaving so we had no problems. Mac was in awe with everything he was seeing, he is such an amusement park junkie. Before we left there was a show on the TV highlighting the various rollercoasters "thrill rides". Again he was glued to what there were saying and I'd hear him say, "wow that's awesome". Since it was just the 3 of us Mac only could ride the rides he could go on by himself. We only went to one area of the park and it worked just perfect. He got to see a horse, ride a few little rides then rode on a ride that shot him up in the air, would come down part way, go up again, ect. and he loved it. Mac, Emily and I rode a sh...

A fun filled day

Image
We had a great day today. After breakfast this morning we headed out to the farmers market. It was neat to walk around and Mac thought it was really cool. Then we were off to soccer for Mac, home for a nap for Emily, then we went to our friends house to go to their community pool. After several hours of the pool and playground, we strolled back and the kids played outside for a while until burn out was setting in. Mac and Dixon have become best buddies, they play so well together. Both Mac and Emily had a great day, Emily is back to normal and actually slept through the night last night which was a blessing.

On the road to recovery

Emily is feeling much better today. Her attitude was back to normal, she's still not eating all her normal stuff but she did eat much better today too. Since I couldn't take her to the gym, I loaded up Mac's bike and the jogging stroller and went on a walk/jog with the kids. Mac loved riding his bike and I got a decent workout in. Yesterday I tried both of us riding and Mac can't go fast enough to give me a good cardio workout. We spent some time this afternoon enjoying the weather. It's been so sunny and beautiful here and Emily loved getting out. Mac really enjoys his play set as well, even though he does some dare devil things on it! I'm hoping Emily will sleep good tonight, we both could use a good night's sleep!

Summer's here for Mac

Mac had his last day of preschool yesterday and an ice cream social today, so he's officially out for the summer! He is very excited about all the fun things were going to do. Hopefully he'll be as excited to go back in the fall!

Another ER visit

Just when we think we are out of the sickness gloom in the Mac Kinnon house hold, Emily gets yet another bug. I remember Mac being sick alot when he was little, I know it help build immunity, yadda, yadda yadda but it sucks when it happens. Emily was crabby on Sunday and didn't sleep real great Sunday night. Monday after my workout she was asleep in a high chair in the child care area which wasn't her norm. She started developing a fever and had her hands in her mouth alot. By last evening she was very uncomfortable, Motrin wasn't cutting it. I looked into her mouth to see if she was cutting a tooth and she had ulcers in her mouth. John and I decided a trip to the ER was necessary so off we went. She has hand, mouth foot disease which I found out is going through the child care area at the YMCA. Poor thing is miserable, she should be better in a week or so. Were hoping Mac doesn't get it! It's been a busy couple of days, hopefully we'll be on the up sid...

Happy 40th John

Image
Today is John's 40th birthday. He wouldn't let me make a big deal about it, but I was able to get away with a few balloons and inviting some friends over for a "mexican fiesta"! We had a great dinner and topped it off with a cake from Cold Stone. Mac sang Happy Birthday very well to John, it was very cute!!! Happy Birthday John!!!!

An afternoon at the waterpark

Image
Since our camper wasn't ready to use this weekend, we had to go to plan B. John's next choice for his birthday weekend was to spend the afternoon at Water Country, it's opening day! We thought it would either be packed or empty (since it rained in the morning), the latter was true and we couldn't have been happier. Mac was so excited and couldn't wait to ride the water rides. We started off in the kiddie area where Emily could play and get wet, then off to the wave pool, then started in on the rides. Mac was able to go on all of them with an adult and a life vest. John and I took turns, both usually getting to ride once with Mac as he often wanted to ride a ride several times. Since the park was pretty empty, most rides we were able to walk right onto. Emily hung out for the most part, we all did the "hubba hubba highway" together which was fun. We all had fun and slept very soundly last night!
