Great day 2......

Image
Today we wanted to go on a hike.  Our friends Tamara and Ben mentioned a hike they had done several years ago so we researched it and decided to do the 8 mile portion (out and back) to a waterfall.  We got up early and hit the trail, it was raining and a tad chilly but really beautiful.  The terrain was a bit more aggressive and muddy than I had expected but it was a beautiful hike with amazing views and even some rainbows.  The waterfall was breathtaking, John swam out to it, it was very chilly water but he loved it.  After a snack we hiked back.  What we thought would take us 3-4 hours took us 6 but it was an amazing day!  We enjoyed a delicious dinner and more time by the fire pit...it's been an awesome two days!  We will be glad to see the kids tomorrow, we do miss them.

Kauai Weekend Getaway....Day 1

Image
Grandma Jan came to visit for Thanksgiving and graciously agreed to watch the kids for us so John and I could get away for a much deserved weekend getaway.  Since we want to explore all the islands while were here we picked Kauai.  We hopped a plane for a quick 45 minute flight and started our adventure.  We signed up for a 13 mile ride down the Waimea Canyon (the Grand Canyon of the Pacific).  It was a perfect afternoon, the views toward the top of the canyon were amazing and our ride down was fun and our tour guide as very informative.  She even stopped so we could take a picture of the Iliau tree which inspired the trees in Dr. Seuss book "The Lorax".  After a great ride and watching the sun set we had an awesome burrito at Da Crack and ended the night with a glass a wine by the fire pit!  What a great first day of our getaway!

Striking a pose..

Jan wanted a picture of the kids to replace one she had taken 4-5 years ago.  The kids looked darling all dolled up!

Happy Thanksgiving

Happy Thanksgiving from Hawaii!  We are embracing Hawaii and had our turkey cooked in an Imu pit this year.  Our local high school does it for a fundraiser, we weren't sure how it would turn out.  The turkey was amazing......we all loved it and can't wait to do it again next year!  Maybe will add some pork or ham in next years roast.  It was really a great day.  Happy Thanksgiving from the MacKinnons!
