Sleeping sibs break up!

So the cuteness of Mac and Emily sleeping together has worn off. Emily loves to have Mac sleeping with her and she falls asleep quickly. Mac loved it at first, but now doesn't want to sleep with her. Then Emily has a fit and Mac wants to give in. I finally said enough is enough, no more sleeping together for a while. I tried to explain to Mac that Emily doesn't understand when he says he wants to sleep in his bed, then gives in after she has a fit and sleeps with her, that all is very confusing to her (and to Mac). So as cute as it was, we'll give them a break then let them sleep together a night here and there!

0.31 scoops

Image
Baskin Robbins has .31 cent scoops of ice cream tonight so after Mac's music class and a quick dinner I took the kids for a treat. They enjoyed it and you can't beat 0.65 cent treat!

A house for Willie

Image
Mac took interest in a box the other day. He wanted to cut windows in it and make a house for Willie, so I obliged. Mac was disappointed when Willie wouldn't jump in it, so I turned it on it's side. Within a few minutes Willie was settling in! Mac was thrilled!

T-ball game 2

Mac had a great game today. We thought we would get rained out but the rain held off for the game. He got to play short stop twice, first base and catcher. For some reason all the kids wanted to play catcher today, it must be that they get to wear a catchers mask. Mac was thrilled when he didn't get out and made it all the way home. He got on base for all four of his hits and didn't get out at all today, he was happy! Our next game is next Saturday.

Precious

Image
Emily asks every night "Mac sleep with me?", Mac seems to like that she wants him to sleep with her. Surprisingly they don't play and do fall asleep, then I move Mac to his bed before I go to bed. Below is how I found them the other night when they fell asleep.....then about 2 hours later! Too precious!!!!

Mac's first t-ball game

Image
Mac had his first t-ball game tonight against the Mets! Being t-ball the rules are slightly simpler then regular baseball. They play for one hour, each time either gets 3 outs or they go through all their player batting once. The other team was much more serious then our team was, chanting and all kinds of stuff. No one really keeps score so there is no winner or loser, which is good at this age, it's about playing and having fun. Mac's team was first in the field and Mac (# 5) played second base. The first hit went straight to him, he scooped it up and threw it to first base, he did great. Each kid rotate positions and sits out too so Mac played two innings and sat out two. He got up to bat 3 times and unfortunately got out on first base on two of his hits and out at second on another hit. He seemed to have an issue with running as soon as he hit the ball or the ball was hit, something we need to work on! Emily loved cheering him on, I got a great pic of the two of th...

Sweet brother

Mac was really sweet to Emily tonight. She got in trouble right before dinner for misbehaving and lost her "treat" which she was going to get after dinner. Shortly after he heard me tell her no treat, he says to me "mom I will give up my treat tonight too since it wouldn't be very nice of me to eat a treat in front of Emily since she doesn't get one tonight". Yesterday we had dinner with friends and were going to go get dessert after dinner but my friends kids misbehaved so they lost their dessert. When Mac asked for his I quietly told him that he could have dessert when we got home since it wouldn't be nice to eat dessert in front of his friends who couldn't have any, then I asked him how he would feel if he was the one in trouble and his friends were eating dessert in front of him. He seemed to get what I was talking about last night, being that he gave up his treat tonight...I'm so glad he thinks about these things....he doesn't always...

Fat cat

Image
Emily "rearranged" the furniture the other day and Willie seemed to like the placement of the Dora couch. He looked so huge in this couch. The last picture is two 5 year old kids sitting in the couch to compare to one fat cat! I should know better but he's on steroids....that's my story...and I"m sticking to it!

Shirtless boy

Mac asked me a few nights ago if he could go to bed without his shirt on, just in his shorts. I asked him why, he told me that boys don't sleep with shirts on. I explained that they do and it's too chilly yet to sleep without a shirt. He gave in. Tonight he asked again, really nicely if he could sleep without his shirt. Again he said boy's don't wear shirts to bed and had some other justification that I can't remember now but I gave in. I figure if he get's cold enough he'll wear a shirt or I'm in for a battle if he loves it, guess we'll see!

Girls and clothing

Image
Emily loves to pick out her own clothing to wear and dress herself. She is extremely independent and if I try to help her I get "ME DO IT". As we let her decide what to wear, she is finding her sense of style....being that I have none I'm hoping by her experiments she will develop her style! I'm not sure she'll be on the runway with this outfit but it's one of her most colorful one's yet. I love the mis match socks! She even got a "mean girl" face, oh boy.

Bubble blowing fun

Image
The kids pulled out their bubble making machines a few days ago and neither of them worked any longer, even with new batteries. During our trip to target we got another machine and we had to put it into use right away. The kids had a blast, Emily ran all over the yard trying to catch the bubbles! The wind was blowing so it was really neat to see all the bubbles everywhere.

Snuggling sibs

Since Emily got her new bed we rotate bedrooms every night to say our prayers and the kids get a story from John when he's home or I read them another story or tell them one if I have too (John is a great storyteller!). Tonight was Emily's night so after our prayers and a story from John on the phone, Emily asked if Mac could sleep with her. I asked Mac if he wanted too and he said yes. Since Emily's had a hard time falling asleep in her new bed, I decided to give them a shot to see if they would play or sleep, warning them if they didn't go to sleep Mac would have to go to his bed. It remained quiet, after about 20 minutes I went into check on them and Emily was fast asleep and Mac was still awake. I asked him if he wanted to move to his bed and he said no but he wanted his raiders bear. So I got him his bear but a few minutes later he came out of her room and said he wanted to go to his room, Emily was taking up too much space! So he went to his bed and fell fas...

T-ball opening day

Image
Mac is playing t-ball this spring, it's real t-ball with games so this is a new experience for all of us. In the past he's done little "sessions" but not playing against other teams. It's a pretty serious sport here, he's had to practice twice a week for the past month and his games start this week, often 2 games a week. Thank goodness it only goes until mid-June. Today was "opening" day. All the baseball teams (t-ball on up to regular baseball) assembled today, over 900 kids all in uniforms, it was pretty cool to see. Mac is on the "Nationals", he is very excited. In addition to the opening ceremony today they got their team picture and individual pictures taken. One of his best buddies Dixon is on his team and so is one of his classmates from preschool Mac's first game is Thursday night against the Mets, he's really excited!

It reminds me of daddy

Image
Yesterday John left for another trip and when I walked into Mac's room last evening I saw a plaque and Coast Guard coin sitting on Mac's shelf (he put up the plaque last time but just got the coin from John). Mac saw me looking at it and said "I put it up because it reminds me of daddy and I will see it all the time". So sweet.....

Outdoor dining

Image
It was a beautiful day today and the kids asked if they could eat their lunch outside so we did and they loved it!

Emilys settling into her new bed

Emily seems to be adjusting to her new bed. The first night it took a little while but better than we expected. Last night there was a few less "one more hugs" and tonight we made it with only one more hug and she went to sleep. We've left her door open and told her we'll close it if she gets out of bed which as worked. Naps also have gone well, so I think it's all good!

Moving into a big bed

Image
We've had a hard time transitioning Emily to a regular bed. I got a toddler bed a while back and she had issues with it and wouldn't sleep in it, since at the time she couldn't get out of the crib yet I was fine with her staying in the crib. Recently she's started figuring out how to get out of the crib and she's such a little peanut that she has a long way to fall. She also trys getting into it and gets her limbs caught in the bars. So we decided since John was home for a few days that we'll go find her a bed and go cold turkey, take out the toddler bed and crib giving her no other option. It was a long day finding the right bed. We really wanted a bed with a trundle since we don't have a guest room it give an extra bed for someone to sleep if we need it. We are happy with our choice and Emily is too. It didn't hurt we pimped the bed out with Dora sheets, comforter, etc! We thought it was going to be a long night, but after about 5 "one mo...

Emily's potty trained

I think it's safe to say that Emily is potty trained. She's been wearing underwear for over a week now with no accidents. She had been interested off and on and over the past few weeks wanted to wear her "Dora" underwear and the rest has been history! It's so nice not having to change diapers (and cheaper too)!

Daddy and Purdue

Image
Mac has been getting into drawing these days. This morning he created two pictures for John, both of John. Everything he draws these days of John include Purdue wear, either a hat or shirt! Mac came up with this all on his own and starting putting a "P" on the pictures!

Spring break getaway

Image
John got home late Saturday night and didn't have to be to work until Thursday and Mac is on spring break with week so it only seemed fitting we should sneak away for a few days to spend some quality family time together. After debating between the cherry blossoms in DC and the outer banks, we chose the beach. My awesome aunt Paula offered to let us use their vacation rental there since it was open. It was an awesome place with a view that was breath taking. We woke up every morning watching the sun rise, it was awesome. The beach was great, each morning we walked on the beach with our coffee. The kids loved playing in the sand and Mac especially loved flying his plane and his kite. Aside from stepping on a thorny ball thing, it was a few easy steps to the beach. The picture toward the end was the view from the top deck. The house also has a hot tub and pool. Surprisingly Mac loved the hot tub, it was very warm and Emily loved the pool which was very cold. She was determi...
