More on pigtails...

Image
I went to the gym today and one of the gals who takes care of Emily in their child care center showed me a picture she took with her cell phone of Emily last week. I guess they were a little bored and had fun with her pigtails! It is darling, everywhere we go everyone comments on what a happy baby see is and how cute she is. We are very lucky with two very happy beautiful children!

We have a tooth......

Emily finally has 2 teeth coming through. She was crabby and fussy last week, I thought I saw what I thought was teeth but it was so hard to tell since it was the bottom front and she is a bear to get her tongue back to see. We finally did spot them....Yeah!!!!!

Try a brussel sprouts please

Image
John tried to get Mac to try a brussel sprout this week. He put in on a toothpick, Mac wanted no part. Then John put ranch on it, one of Mac's favorite "dipping" sauces, still no go. Mac wanted some of John's sour cream on it (doesn't this sound yummy), so now it was totally covered in white. John told him to hold his nose so he wouldn't taste it, even tried bribing him with a tootsie roll. Mac did try but he just couldn't stomach it....... god bless him for trying!

No sick days

We've been laying low in our household this week. We've had some sort of bug filter through John, Emily and myself. With that compiled with Emily's sleep issues it's been a quiet week in the Mac Kinnon household. One thing I realized this week was I don't get sick days! Boy I felt miserable several days this week, it took everything I had to get Mac to preschool and get the daily must do's done. I have a much greater respect for stay at home Mom's who have no one to help when we are sick. Fortunately John was a trooper when he got home from work but it was a long day until then, then he got sick too.......

Pigtails

Image
Since Emily has so much hair and I was very bored with clipping it back I decided to try something new....pigtails. Isn't she adorable!!!! Yes the last picture is her standing, she can stand for over 45 seconds on her own....she'll be walking before she has teeth!

Sleepless in Williamsburg

We have taken a step back in time. For some reason Emily has decided to wake up to eat in the middle of the night, the past two nights have been worse. We bring her into our bed to feed her, she usually falls back asleep, but for whatever reason isn't going back to sleep so easily. She tosses, turns, grabs our faces, etc. On top of it Mac also has been waking up, I think he hears Emily, and he joins us in bed. I felt like a walking zombie today and am hoping everyone gets back into sync. I don't know if Emily is going through a growth spurt, has a tooth coming in or is just being a bit crabby but hopefully it passes soon :)!

Mac's first stripe

Mac earned his first stripe at karate tonight. Kids earn stripes when they have performed really well and are also doing well at home. John took him as I had alot to do at home, I'm sorry I missed it. Mac is so thrilled to have a stripe on his belt! We are very proud of him.

Crazy hair

Image
Emily has a head full of crazy hair. She has very little patience as I try to put it in some style. Bows work best, but I'd love to try some new things if she would just sit still! This was one of her do's after a nap, isn't it lovely?

Mac's new friend

Mac has a new friend that he's been in speech therapy with. Her name is Kara and she is very cute and his same age. He likes going to speech school, I don't know if its the teacher or to play with Kara! Both days this past week as we were leaving she told him to hold her hand as we walked across the parking lot, Mac obliged. His face was bright red and he looked at me with a shy funny smile, I wish I had a camera, it was way too adorable. Their speech teacher wants to work with them individually for a while so they wont get to see each other twice a week, but Kara's mom and I are planning a play date since the two of them seem to enjoy each others company! Hopefully I can get a cute picture!

Guess Emily was still hungry

Image
After her dinner tonight Emily decided to eat her feet, she must have been hungry or bored! Which ever it was she seemed to enjoy her toes this evening. She started a new food trial, with all of her spit up the GI doctor thinks she has a dairy and soy intolerance, so she is eating a prescription formula that smells like vanilla, now when she spits up at least it smells nice! It's only been two days but I've seen a decrease in the spit up, it may be wish full thinking.....

The grass is always greener.......

Image
John has worked very hard with his green thumb and getting the grass to look nice. His hard work has paid off, our lawn looks beautiful. It's hard to tell the front yard, but the back yard is tremendous. It's so nice to see a plush yard! The pictures below are before and after with the top of each one being the before.

Driving blunders

This week has been extremely hectic, yesterday while I was driving on the road after what seemed like an endless day and car cut me off. I try to be very careful and cautious of what I say as Mac picks up everything these days. As I was cut off by this driver I called him a "Jerk", immediately catching myself after I said it. I automatically told Mac that was a bad word and not to say it. He tell me, Mom you supposed to say "DUDE", which is what I normally say when I get irritated by drivers. He cracks me up.....

Another one bites the dust.....

Max, one of the original fish in our "tank gang" died today. We had to do a partial water change in our tank yesterday due to dangerous levels of nitrite in our tank. We don't know if that pushed him over the edge or if he had been sick but we were very sad to loose him. Mac was very upset. He didn't see Molly when she had died, but we checked on him together and I realized he had died (head dive into one of our flowers) but Mac saw him. He started crying, it was very sad. We had to explain why another fish went to fish heaven. When he asked about it later in the day today, he started crying again. Needless to say we are watching the other fish closely and hoping the others will be fine. I never knew there was such a chemistry to a fish tank!

Princess wave

Emily has begun to wave to say hi. She will wave to us and anyone new she meets, it's very adorable. We've been calling it the princess wave, she is a princess in the making. For those of you who aren't as computer savy click on the arrow to see Emily's wave :)!

Mac's love for the phone

Mac's really into talking on the phone these days. Although the conversations are usually fast and short, he asks to call various people. It's random who he wants to call, yesterday I explained to him how speed dials work on my cell phone. Now I'm thinking that may not have been the best idea. He now knows Pappy is #8 and Aunt Holly is #5. He called Pappy yesterday and Holly today. Holly didn't answer her phone so he left a message when he hung up he told me she is golfing. I asked how he knew that and he said "that's what her machine says". Yesterday he asked John what number Uncle Jimmy is on his phone and called Brian last evening. If you get a call from either of us.......it may be Mac. I know some of you have gotten random weird messages from him, he's still figuring out the answering machine/voice mail thing!

Mac's newest past time

Image
A few weeks ago we decided to get a digital picture frame. We have so many wonderful pictures of family and friends, it was so hard to decide what to hang up, etc. It has been one of the greatest purchases we have made in a while. All of us stop to enjoy the pictures rotating through, Mac will stand there for minutes on end looking at pictures. He loves to see all his family and friends, it's very cool.

Time for new jammies

Image
John had daddy duty this evening, I went to a yoga class after Mac's swim lessons. I got home everyone was in their jammies ready for bed. I was playing with Emily and saw her toes poking out of her jammies. Guess it's time to get some bigger jammies!

Betty Crocker

I had to write tonight about Amity's recent desire to cook.  While Pappy and Aunt Holly visited she was baking cookies at 10:00 at night and then had the will power not to eat any.  Today she cooked a weeks worth of food in about 5 hours.  She made chili, stew, quiche, and meatballs.  It is all made with food she/we can eat.  I figure she is nesting in her new kitchen but she says its due to football season starting this weekend.  Either way I get to watch football all day while she cooks....win-win!

Hanna passes through

We started feeling the effects of Hanna last evening, when we woke up this morning the rain was coming down pretty good. They were forecasting heavy winds and rain with the worst coming through around 2 pm today. Hanna gave us some rain, which was definitely needed and some good wind but all in all it wasn't bad at all. We had a quiet day in the house, we did make a trip to the gym to get a workout in and Mac got to swim. He LOVES the pool!

Molly goes to fish heaven

Molly (one of our first fish) hadn't been looking good for the past few days, I figured he/she may not survive. John found her belly up this morning and sent him/her to fish heaven. I was heading to Newport News today and decided I would swing into the pet store and pick up a new fish, we were also looking for a friend for Max. I was successful and found a friend for Max, a red sword tail and a beautiful Sunburst Platy. I named the platy "Sunny" and Mac named the red sword tail - "Rooster". Max hasn't been very nice to Rooster and is picking on him. If he continues to be a snot then we'll take Rooster back to the pet store. Were hoping everyone will get along. I never realized fish has such personalities. Catfish Hunter has mellowed out and is growing on me. John and I are really enjoying our fish tank!

First day of preschool

Mac had his first day of preschool today. He did great when I dropped him off, he didn't cry at all and seemed to be just fine. Of course I got into the car and cried, I don't know why! When I went to pick him up he was great, he didn't want to leave. Although he didn't remember what he did today, he wants to go back tomorrow! So far so good!

Mac-isms

Mac gets John and I once in a while, he'll say something that John and I didn't realize he knew. Today we were on the way home from preschool and there was a bus in front of us. Mac says "there is a handicap sign". (which was on the back door of the bus indicating a handicap entrance) John and I were both surprised as neither of us recall teaching him this. So I asked if he knew what handicap meant - he told me that it was a sign for people who couldn't walk good. Again we were surprised and pleased at the same time that he knew what it was. Guess we shouldn't get so frustrated with him asking "why" all the time...... Another cute story from today - he was supposed to be taking a nap, about 1/2 hour after he went down he came down stairs and told me he wasn't tired, then says (with the cutest expression on his face), "Can you believe it"!

Golf with Pappy

Image
Another napped skipped.  Sunday was a guys golf day and lucky for us the weather held up!  We set out to golf 9 holes with Mac but he was having so much fun hitting the ball and riding in the cart we ended up golfing all 18 holes.  Pappy brought Mac a couple new clubs including a putter.  He only has one swing speed which is "grip it and rip it" and he must tee every shot up even if he is 3 feet from the hole.  Lucky for Pappy and I, we never found ourselves in the direct line of one of Mac's shots because he has not learned to yell four yet!

Crazy catfish

We went to the pet store today to see if our tank was ready for more fish, we got the green light to add 2 more fish. John and Mac really wanted a catfish. I am not a fan but it's what the boys wanted, I picked out a buddy for Molly, another platy (fin tail). John named the catfish "Catfish Hunter" and I let Mac choose the name for the platy, he chose "Moppy". The catfish is a freak. He flys fast through the tank and is supposed to be at the bottom, but he seems to like the top corner of the tank. Were hoping he chills out once he gets use to the tank, otherwise he may take a trip back to the pet store. We would like to get Max a friend but they didn't have any in today, so hopefully we'll soon get him a friend too.
