Fun memorial day

Image
We've had a great day today. My friend Linnea and I did a 3 mile run and 25 mile bike ride this morning, then after an early lunch we headed over to her community pool and the kids played in the water for hours. All the kids loved the water and couldn't get enough. Around dinner time we went back to Linnea's and had a quick dinner. After a quick shower at home and a book the kids were fast asleep, a good day was had by all!

Chick-fil-a fun run and Kidburg

Image
We started our morning very early with a 1/2 mile fun run for Mac and a 5K run for me. It was sponsored by Chick-fil-a and the fun run was a run with the cows. There must have been 10 different cows out, it was alot of fun. Emily was of course frightened and freaked out by them but Mac loved it. I ran the fun run with him, which he did great! Then I ran the 5K. On our way home, since it was such a nice morning, we stopped by Kidburg for the kids to play. Jan treated us to a great lunch and Mac to a haircut! It was a fun day all around.

Mac graduates preschool

Image
Mac had his preschool graduation today, it was bittersweet. It's wonderful to see him growing, but sad too that my little boy isn't so little anymore. The did a performance of a variety of songs then they had an ice cream social and an opportunity to say goodbye to their friends and teachers. I shed a few tears but held it together for the most part! Mac was sad and said "bye playground" I'll never get to play on you again. He was a little sad and wanted me to make sure I got kids numbers so we could do play dates. He was too cute. There are 3 video's of a few of the songs they did today.

Fish tank nightmare

I was cleaning the fish tank today when I noticed a rather large puddle of water behind the tank. Our fish tank sits above a gas fireplace in a built in hole in the wall (meant for a tv). So knowing the weight of a 37 gallon fish tank and not knowing how long it's been leaking I needed to get the tank drained. So what do I do with the fish? After chatting with John and another friend I headed off to the pet store to see what I could do. I decided to do two 10 gallon tanks, one in each of the kids rooms. After 6 hours and lots of headaches, the tanks are set up and the kids couldn't be happier. Mac went to bed with a huge smile saying, I can say goodnight and good morning to the fish now and I'm glad the cat fish is in my tank since he's a boy! Emily enjoys hers too, she liked have the light from the tank. The fish were really stressed, the catfish got caught in the fish net so I had to cut the fish net to get him free, now he has a piece of the net stuck to his ...

I've completed my first sprint triathlon

Image
About 6 weeks ago one of my friends convinced me to do a sprint triathlon with her. I don't know how I caved it but I did so I spent the past 6 weeks doing some serious training. This sprint tri was a 300 meter pool swim (12 laps in a meter pool), 12 mile bike ride and a 3.1 mile run. I finished, with my transition times in 1 hour and 29 minutes. I'm pretty proud of myself that I completed it, and am considering another later this year. Swimming was my toughest event, then the run. I loved the bike ride! Holly brought the kids out and it was great to see them after I was done. Holly helped them make an awesome sign which Mac drew a bike all on his own, put footprints (for my run) and waves. He even found a "medal" sticker for me. I will treasure this sign for a long time!

Date night with Aunt Holly

Holly had to come back to the East Coast for a funeral, so she stopped in to see us for a few days. Were sad she had to come back for a funeral but so glad to see her. It happened to work out too that she take care of the kids for me for my first sprint triathlon tomorrow! I've got a 4 am wake up call so it will be an early morning. Anyhow, after Holly ran the kids around for me today she took Mac on a date. He was so excited, he showered after his t-ball game so he was "clean" and he said he wanted to "smell like a man", which means he uses John's body wash! He was grinning ear to ear when he left, they went to a place called Movie Tavern which you can eat dinner while you watch a movie. They saw the new Shrek movie that came out yesterday. Mac called me on their way home and was so excited, he has so much fun! We wish Holly could stay a few more days but she will have to leave tomorrow afternoon......we'll have to wait until July to see her again.

Jesus loves me

Yesterday Emily was singing "Jesus loves me" in the car, it's hard to understand her but if you can make out the song it is cute!

Bye Bye Ollie

Image
We've had a great week with Ollie. The kids loved him and he became part of our family, it was so nice having a dog around again. Ollie went back home today, I told Catherine he can vacation with us anytime! Emily wanted me to make sure I have Ollie and hug and kiss tonight at bedtime, I told her I would let Mrs. Catherine know! It's a bummer Emily has her potential allergy issues, a dog would fit into our family well. Guess we'll have to wait until we can retest Emily!

Happy Birthday John

Image
We celebrated John's birthday today. After Mac got out of preschool today we went and had lunch with John which the kids thought was great. Then we had a mexican feast for dinner, a delicious coldstone cake and a few cards and presents for John. The kids had a great time showing John their card which Mac drew on the back and Emily drew John a picture. John got some great gifts, Emily liked trying his exercise bands. These are useful for John when he travels and doesn't have access to a gym. Mac also read John a book and told him a story tonight, it was way too cute. Mac read Go Dog Go, a Dr. Seuss book, which is one John first learned to read when he as a boy. I got a short video clip, it's a little hard to hear but it's very cute! Happy Birthday John!

Feeling old.....

John was telling Mac his story this evening at bed time, John is an excellent story teller and Mac treasures this time with John. John told Mac a story tonight that was a story that happened to him when he was a boy. His story started like this: "Once upon at time uncle Jim and I were little boys, I was 9 and Jim was 6. We lived in a house in El Dorado Hills and it was........... John paused for a second and Mac piped in and said "during the dinosaur period" John said he chuckled and razzed Mac for a minute then continued his story with "it was foggy"....then told the rest of the story. It doesn't help that John's 41st birthday is tomorrow....

Emily's first stitches

Image
Our little princess got her first set of stitches. John was playing with the kids out back on the swings and Emily's swing got cockeyed and hit the play set causing a huge gash in her forehead. John came rushing in and both he and Emily were covered in blood. I didn't realize heads bleed so darn bad. With the help of a neighbor who took Mac and Ollie to their house, John and I headed off with Emily to the ER. After about an hour we finally saw a doc. Emily was doing fairly well so he tried to numbing the wound. She was a trooper but then started freaking out and kind of lost it, the doc couldn't get close to her. So they went off to get ready to put and IV in for sedation when she fell asleep (doc said it was ok since he wasn't concerned she had a concussion). She was exhausted since she hadn't had a nap, we had kept her up since we were supposed to go out on a date tonight and we wanted the babysitter to have an easy bedtime! Anyway, when they came in to put the IV...

Mock tri and fun run

Image
We did a mock triathlon this morning to prepare us for the real one next Sunday. John was a huge help, he lined up the pool at the base, prepared our bikes and cheered us on with the kids. The coast guard base had a 5K today so that fit right into our run. We started our day very early but did great and feel prepared for our big event! While we were biking, Mac and John (with Emily in the jogging stroller) ran the 1 mile fun run, it was Mac's first run. He seemed to like it and ran almost the whole time!
