Finn cuteness for the week

Image
Finn is settling into our crazy routine well.  He is a typically puppy and getting into lots of trouble but also full of cuteness too!  The kids love when I bring him to pick them up from school.  He has his first trip to the vet today, he was 17#!   One more set of shots before can can walk outside the house, I'm getting tired of carrying him to the car!  He thinks Willie is the coolest cat and wants to play, however Willie is just disgusted with him and ignores him as much as possible.  Finn doesn't understand why his hisses at him and doesn't want to play!

Another swim meet

Mac swam another meet today and got another AA time in his 200 free.  He is super excited and really is working hard.  Next weekend is the swim-a-thon, should be a great weekend.  Then one more meet after that then we get a break from meets until December!  Emily has been an amazing sister and tolerating all this swimming stuff over the past few weeks.

Halloween cuteness

Image
The kids received a package in the mail from Gran and Grandpa Robert today.  They were super excited to see some Halloween shirts.  We haven't done much for Halloween yet other than get a costume.  It's hard when it's hot to go pick pumpkins, it's definitely not feeling like fall in Hawaii!  They are so excited they will have something orange and black to wear Friday for school!

Yummy breakfast

Image
Mac wanted to make his own breakfast this morning for he and Emily.  He did a pretty darn good job...with no help from me other than capping the strawberries for him.  Neither of them could finish their plate!

Mac's reading...for the next few months

Image
Mac is really loving reading alot.  He has found a series of books he likes, about sports of course.  He is blowing through these books in less than a week and scoring 100% on his AR tests.  He wanted two more from the library and the same day he also received his books we ordered from Scholastic as well as a book he brought home.  His goal is to read them all in the next 6-8 week!  We love how much he is loving to read.

Report cards

Image
It has been a great first quarter for the kids.  They got their report cards and both Mac and Emily are doing well.  This is the first year Mac has actually percentages/letter grades instead of the S's and E's!  He was so excited when he was presented with an award for Honor Roll at a school assembly.  He didn't really know what honor roll was....but does now and is super excited!  Emily also is a great student, she is reading very well and has started taking AR tests which she thinks is fun.  She has gotten 100% on all her spelling tests to date, we have asked her teacher to give her some harder words!  She is also the only one in her class who has not had to "turn their card" (when they do something there not supposed to in class).  She loves learning!

Awesome......and wet swim meet

Image
Mac had a swim meet today, he's been working really hard these past few weeks and really wanted to achieve a AA time in his 50 free, as this would allow him to swim in some "invitational" meets coming up.  When Hurricane Ana started on the weather radar we were very concerned the meet would get cancelled, but with Ana going more west we got a ton of rain but the meet went on!  We all got drenched......regardless of the weather Mac swam one of his best meets to date.   Mac shaved a second off his 50 breast stroke, 3 seconds off his 50 back stroke, 6 second off his 100 free and 2 seconds off his 50 free....which he made is AA time!  He was so excited, it was so great to see all his hard work pay off and for him to reach his goal.  He also swam in a relay which was pretty cool.  We are so very proud of how determined and hard he worked the past few weeks and he accomplished his goal.  I know I say it alot...but WAY TO GO MAC!!!!!!!

Swim awards

Image
Mac's swim team has their "awards and incentives" night once a quarter.  This is when all swimmers are given their awards, ribbons and acknowledged for their accomplishments. Mac was given a certificate for a b time in his 50 yard back stroke, a bag and 2 pins for reaching A times in the 50 breast stroke and 50 free.  He was super stoked and even more excited to try to get a AA time at his swim meet this coming weekend since he gets a jacket for a AA time!  Yeah Mac.......way to go!!!

Cooling off...

Image
John and and went for a run today while the kids rode their bikes with us.  Afterwards we promised the kids a quick dip in the ocean.  Mac and John swam out to the buoy and back!  It's a beautiful day!

50 Hawaii miles

Image
I went for a run today and Mac rode his bike along with me.  When we were almost home he hit 50 miles on his bike since we've been in Hawaii!  Way to go Mac, keep on pedaling!

Sunday puppy love

Finn is settling in nicely....found Mac's lap to rest and later Emily wanted to read him a book.....  I'm sure it won't be long before Emily dresses him up!

Like father....like son

The boys went for some afternoon golf last week....and came home with burrito's from a new place they found....like father....like son!

Puppy fun......day one!

Image
The kids were out of school today so it was perfect that we brought home Finn last night.  He did great overnight, only a little whimpering in his crate for a few minutes.  The kids kept him busy all day, our neighbors also came to meet him!  He has been great with all the kids.  He managed to squeeze in a few naps, he was so tired in the late afternoon he slept with his head off the chair.  The kids are doing good with him overall, although they get a little freaked out when he is chewing on something he shouldn't and they can't get him to stop!  So far no potty accidents, he's been pretty mellow.  Were feeling pretty lucky!!!!!

Welcome Home Finn

Image
We picked Finn up around 5 pm this evening.  The kids were so excited.  Finn had been neutered earlier in the day so he was a little out of sorts.  He checked out his new digs and after a nap, met Willie.  Finn barked at him and Willie just stared at him....with a look like "really"........  so far he is awful cute, we'll see how night number one goes!

Fishing.....finally

Image
John has been so dearly wanting to get the boat out for some fishing.  It's been tough since you have to pick your days here with the wind and having to learn new waters here and where the fish are a lot of work.  We had a good weather day today so Mac and John went out.....they saw a big family of sea turtles which was cool and caught one small tuna but no keepers.  Were hoping for more good days for John to get out on the water!

New family member coming soon....

We have been without a dog for several years now.  Mac and Emily ask on a regular basis to get a dog, we promised them when we got settled we would think about it seriously.  Well were pretty much settled here and I've been watching local shelter and humane society web-sites for a puppy that would be a good fit for us.  Last Thursday the local SPCA posted they had just had a litter of 10 week old lab/cattle dog puppies come in.  I showed the pictures to John and we thought that would be a good mix of dog and may be a good fit for our family.  We slept on it overnight and then John and I went to look at the puppies the next day.  We didn't want to tell the kids yet just in case it wasn't going to work.  John and I fell in love with a little brown boy and decided he would be a perfect fit for us.  The puppies have to be spayed and neutered so he cannot come home until Thursday.  We surprised the kids, they were soooooooooo excited.  W...
