Another good fishing day

Image
Mac was up before John this morning dressed, teeth brushed and ready to go fishing!  The moon was so bright, it looked like the sun was rising.  They caught 2 salmon,  Mac caught the bigger fish, although John won't admit it!  They had alot of fun and when they got home Mac and John put up a new canopy for the boat to help protect it for the winter.

Old Mill days

Image
We went to a fun local event called Old Mill Days.  It's a neat showcase of wood carvings, ice sculptures and a way for lumberjacks to show off their stuff!  It was alot of fun to see all the carvings and watching the pole climbers.  The kids were allowed to pick one fun activity, Emily wanted to ride a camel which was a surprise and Mac wanted to roll inside some huge ball.  They both enjoyed their adventures.  We ended the fun with a treat, Emily shivered while she ate her shaved us and loved every bite of it, only sharing with Mac to get some of his cotton candy!

Dentists....oh my

So I've had a problem with my bite for several months and found out Wednesday that I need to have braces on my lower teeth...I thought for sure Mac would be the one to have them! The kids also had a visit to the dentist, Emily was very brave and went first for the cleaning.  Mac has no cavities but Emily had 3.  After trying to figure out why as we brush twice a day, floss and don't allow alot of juice and gummies...we later found out our water system here does not have fluoride in it.  Guess it's time for some extra fluoride!

Wow, what a week

Sorry for the lack of blogs this week, we had a rough week and weren't on the computer a whole lot.  The whole school issue with Mac being transferred to another class became our focus and we had to sort through alot of information and make some tough decisions.  In the end we have chosen to send Mac to a private christian school for this year.   He is very excited to start his new school and class tomorrow.  Thanks to all the support from family and friends who helped us endure this week!!!!!

A second tooth

So Mac lost another tooth the same night he lost the last one.  He wanted to wait until the next night so the tooth fairy would come two nights in a row.  The tooth fairly failed the second night and didn't come back, Mac thinks she didn't come because he came into our bed sometime during the night.  So the tooth fairy made it last night and left him a second coin, he was tickled!

Another tooth gone!

Mac lost another tooth, this time it was one of his baby canines!  The other is close to coming out too, hopefully it does before their dentist appointment this week!

Mac's moving classes

So Mac's elementary school has had an unexpected increased enrollment at the start of the year eventhough the school district, as a whole is under enrollment.  Anyhow all the classes were large, Mac's grade was sitting at 30 in each class and 3rd and 4th at around 34.  Eventhough we really needed 2 more teachers, due to the budget the district is only giving us one.  Upon news of a new teacher we were told they were going to create a "split" class and families who were effected would be notified.  Knowing Mac was moved into the dual language class we figured he may be one of the first ones pulled.  He is loving the class and the teacher, I've had a pit in my stomach for days worried about him getting moved.  Sure enough we got a call from the principal last night.  They have created a "split" classroom for 2nd-4th grade, it has it's pro's and con's and were not sure how we feel about it yet.  We hear the teacher chosen is amazing and she ca...

Nutcracker season begins.....

Image
Emily really wanted to audition for the Nutcracker again this year.  She is gong to be a mouse again, which we figured since she is still tiny.  The next step up is snow angles, most are 6-7 years old so we may have a few years as a mouse.  I dread all the weekend rehearsals and backstage headaches/high maintenance moms but she loves it so I guess we'll suck it up and deal.  She will be a great mouse again this year!  She does love ballet!

Another successful fishing day

Fishing fun

Image
John, Mac and one of Mac's buddies went fishing today.  I don't know if Mac was more excited to fish or hang out with Ethan.  They had a great time on the boat and caught 3 coho salmon.  Ethan is spending the night with us, so when they got home they played then we had dinner and a movie night.  They are all going fishing again tomorrow morning, picking Ethan's dad up to go too.  I'm sure they'll have another great day fishing!

It tastes good

John caught Mac picking his nose....then eating his booger today. John told him it was gross, not to do it. Mac tells him....but it tastes good. Boys.........

First day of preschool

Image
Emily started her second year of preschool today.  After changing her clothes twice, she finally decided on an outfit (boy were in trouble when she gets older).   She was very apprehensive to go to preschool, she's been saying for weeks she didn't want to go back, just wanted to stay home with me.  Not sure why, maybe the fun summer or knowing her buddy wasn't going to be there but whatever the reason I was a bit concerned as she hung onto me like glue and ignored anyone who spoke to her.  The parents stayed with the kids today, after about an hour she finally was ok having a snack while they parents were pulled out of the room.  All the kids went out to play and she did just fine.   Hoping tomorrow goes well and she gets back into her preschool groove, she loved it last year!

Biking Crescent Lake Discovery Trail

Image
We've been wanting to get out and do a bike ride and found that there was a trail around a beautiful lake about an hour and a half away.  It was beautiful, we got on our mountain bikes and started on the trail.  It turned out the first 3.5 miles of the trail was pretty technical and had some big drop off's/cliffs.  We had to get off our bikes a few times and walk through some hairy areas. We finally hit a paved part of the trail and rode for another 3 miles, stopped to have a snack and turned back.  We ended up doing a little over 12 miles.  We were very proud of both kids, Mac handled all the tough parts of the trail well, making it over some big roots and some pretty rocky areas.  Emily also did great on the trail a bike, hanging on and not complaining about all the "bumps"!  We had a great time and can't wait to go back and do it again!

Mac's first day of 2nd Grade

Image
Mac wasn't ready for summer to be over, but he seemed excited to go to school once we got there and he got settled into his desk.  I was excited to pick him up and see how his first day was.  His favorite part of today was playing kickball again at recess with all his buddies....and cricket hunting!  His least favorite...being the last lunch and not eating until 12:35 (last year he was the first lunch at 11:20)!  He was also excited he got to go to the library today and get books! All in all he seemed to have a good day and is glad he doesn't have any homework yet.   As I watched the first grade class pass by at pick up today, I found it hard to believe Mac was that little just a year ago.  I know kids grow fast....days like this I wish it would slow down...just a little!

Puzzling.....

Image
Pappy sent the kids a care package, in that package was a puzzle for Mac.  We've all been stumped by it...John spent over 4 hours trying to solve it today.....still it's unsolved.  Pappy didn't know he was going to provide so much entertainment for us all!

Off to bowl....

Image
Mac really wanted to go bowling for the past few days.  We finally went this afternoon and had alot of fun.  Everyone bowled great....except for me.   Both kids beat me.... I had fun though!
