Birthday weekend....day 1
Mac's 10th birthday is going to be a weekend full of fun. It started last night with Mac having one of his buddies spend the night...of course we had pizza and a movie! Then today our adventure started early, we scheduled a surfing lesson for Mac and his friend Jeffrey. Both boys did great listening and learning and both were able to get up on their boards. The waves weren't huge but perfect enough to start learning. John and I were both impressed with Mac and how well he was able to stand up and keep his balance. The photographer went out with them and got some great pictures.
After their almost 2 hour surf lesson the kids played for a bit on the beach and ate some lunch. John and I then surprised Mac with his own soft top surfboard for this birthday. He was over the top excited and couldn't wait to use it. John took they boys out to catch some more waves. Then after some more play time and a little pool time we changed out for our next adventure.
For several years John has talked about an ice cream place he grew up with called Farrell's where he would get this huge banana spit on steroids called the zoo. We've had a few birthday celebrations with our on version of the zoo. We found out there was a Farrell's here in Hawaii so Mac really wanted to go have a "zoo". So off we went for ice cream....for dinner. When we arrived and saw that it was 30 scoops of ice cream along with all the toppings, banana's etc. we weren't sure 3 adults and 3 kids could finish it....but we decided to give it a try. We got to pick 5 kinds of ice cream so the kids picked mint chocolate chip, cookie dough, kona coffee, rocky road and orange sherbet. They brought the zoo out with singing and dancing, it was quite the scene! We all dug in and sure enough.....we somehow managed to finish it. Mac's friend about half way through says...."I'm getting all jittery"...no wonder it was alot of sugar! It was a great day for Mac, everyone was sun baked and ice cream filled but it was such fun for Mac!
