Williamsburg Grand Illumination

When John and I lived in this area 5 years ago we always talked about going to Williamsburg at Christmastime. We've heard how beautiful it was, especially at Christmas. We never made it then, but tonight we went to Colonial Williamsburg to see the Grand Illumination. It's a yearly event set to kick off the Christmas season. It was absolutely amazing. The festivities started a little before 5 so we got there just before then. We found out the fireworks didn't start until 6:15 so we walked around and found Mac a hot dog for dinner and cider for John and I.

We dressed both kids warmly as it is chilly here, Mac did great but Emily started protesting about 45 minutes into our adventure. She didn't want to eat and she was unhappy. After all of our bags of tricks we had about 15 minutes until the firework display, we managed to make it and almost left but hung in there and we are thrilled we did. The fireworks were the best John and I have ever seen. There was also music from bag pipers and the fife drummers and flutes, it was pretty awesome.

Mac was in awe for the whole thing, he loved the fireworks. Poor Emily was chilled by the time we got to the car the outside temp was 35 degrees, burrr! There's a short video at the bottom of the fireworks if you'd like to see a little clip of what we got to see!
