The Mac Kinnon Family

Holly arrived yesterday and after Mac got out of preschool today we drove to Pennsylvania for my dad's wedding on Saturday. It turned out to be a long drive, the kids did great at the start of it, both slept but we hit traffic in DC and it went downhill from there. Traffic was horrible, the kids woke up, Emily was grumpy, Mac's DVD player stopped working and everyone was needy. We stopped to potty and stretch our legs, but that didn't help much. The last hour Mac kept saying "I want to be there", Emily was crying and fussing, but were here and settled in.

Yesterday as John was gathering his last minute things for his trip today he asked Mac what he wanted him to bring back from this trip. Mac asked if there were animals where he was going, then John said he thought for a little while and said "Daddy, I would like you to stop by that place and bring Brian back a stingray (stuffed animal) like I have, Brian really liked mine and I think he would like one". It's so sweet Mac thought of Brian before thinking of himself - what a big heart!

John had a vision in his head of what he wanted to create for the empty space above our kitchen cabinets. As he described it to me, it sounded very neat but he never drew a picture so I didn't fully get the whole picture. He finished up most of it this weekend and it is beautiful. It matches our cabinets so well and looks like it was meant to be there. John spent alot of time, energy and hard work into this project and it's just beautiful.

We met with the doctor today regarding Emily. She feels she has essentially asthma, but they don't call it asthma in children this young, they call it something else I can't remember the term she used. She feels it's triggered by a virus, usually the cold since this is the 3rd episode this winter. There could be other triggers so we'll watch and see what happens. John had asthma as a child but outgrew it around age 5 so were hoping it will be the same for Emily. We'll be giving her breathing treatments for the next couple of weeks to get through this spell, the doc said anytime she starts with a runny nose start the treatments to head it off at the pass. Hopefully during the summer it won't be as much of an issue. At least we know now what the signs are and are a bit smarter about it. Emily is pretty good sitting for her breathing treatments, hopefully it stays that way!

Emily hasn't felt well for a few days, we figured she was teething again. As the day progressed yesterday she got fussier, then went to bed before 7. Shortly after she went to bed she was really uncomfortable, John and I were trying to figure out what was going on with her as Tylenol or Motrin weren't doing the trick. As John was rocking her we noticed she was breathing a little heavy so we decided to give her a nebulizer treatment. She immediately began breathing better and fell asleep, we felt relieved for her and she seemed to be comfortable. She just finished her antibiotics from the pneumonia and we found it hard to believe the symptoms would reoccur so fast. As we settled into bed and I was working on the blog she again got really fussy. She again couldn't get comfy and was working hard to breath again. My neighbor Ana has a talent for cake decorating. She makes some beautiful cakes including the one she brought over for Easter, it was amazing. I keep telling her she needs to start a business, she has a knack for this.

We had a great Easter day, aside from little sleep the night before. Emily didn't sleep well once again so John and I were up a lot. Once we finally got Emily down, Mac woke up and came into our room, it was one of those nights! The kids loved what the Easter Bunny brought them. Emily got a sand and water table along with a few little toys. Mac got a leapster, games and a little chocolate. Both kids had a peep in their basket, Mac loved his, Emily ate a bite then didn't seem to care for it and tried giving it to Willie! Mac couldn't believe the Easter Bunny took the eggs he dyed out of the fridge and hid them for he and Emily to find! After church we had a few friends over for an egg hunt and dinner. With 7 adults and 7 kids, it was kind of busy around here but alot we all had fun and lots of great food.
