The Roman Forum
After the Coliseum we walked on 2000 year old stones through the Roman Forum . Our guide did a great job painting a great picture because it can be so overwhelming. I remember coming here 14 years ago and saying that all the old stones begin to all look the same. We saw where Caesar was cremated and got a lot of history. The picture with the green door is an original bronze door made by the Roman’s. The hinges and lock still work. Below the door was where the earth was before they began to unearth everything. Hundreds of years and floods turned this beautiful forum into a cow pasture for many years. The only Statues still standing is the house of the Vestal Virgins. Chosen before puberty they were in charge of guarding the hearth at all times and highly sought of. If they lost their virginity they were buried alive with one loaf of bread.
